Emissions in South Africa
Experimental monthly and yearly mean NOx surface emission estimates downscaled from KNMI DESCO emissions
(derived from OMI observations of tropospheric NO2 columns). The downscaling algorithm reconstructs the low
resolution DESCO emissions by constrained optimisation of weights assigned to a set of proxy variables.
The weights assigned to each proxy were constrained w.r.t. sector split information for anthropogenic
emissions as reported for South Africa by Lamarque J.-F et al (2009). More information on the methodology
can be found in the following document.
These emissions should at the moment be considered as experimental.
